Physical Educator Not Gym Teacher!

Almost every adult and child in America have the image of this man above, they call it a gym teacher. The term gym teacher is a mockery and a stain on anyone who teachers coaches or cares about physical activity in general. A gym teacher is exactly what you think it would be a lazy old football coach with track pants on that all you do is play basketball or walk the track. A gym teacher does not teach they want a pay check and do not care about the children. The term everyone should adapt is a physical educator! A physical educator is light years different than a gym teacher. A physical educator cares for the children want sot change their lives and give them the tools to be physically active and have a long and prospurose life. A physical educator is a must and if any educator dares calls themselves a gym teacher then they should not be teaching.
Great job with this blog RJ ! Being a physical educator is defiantly the proper term. As a gym teacher you need to be motivated, encouraging, caring, and poses many other traits. I like how you explained the different terms of gym teacher and physical educator nowadays. It's proper to be more professional and well respected as a future physical educator.

ReplyDeleteReally like what you have to say here RJ. There's no doubt so much more goes into being a school wellness educator than the general public thinks. A school wellness educator is far from a gym teacher. A gym teacher teaches sports and physical activity, while a school wellness educator teaches students all aspects of how to live healthy and well. (Carson D'Anthony)
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you mentioned in this post. Gym teachers are completely different than physical educators or school wellness teachers. I grew up with my physical education teachers being rude and only caring about the students who were athletic and played sports. Teachers need to care about each individual student and their health and well-being. Physical education is not about playing games and being good at sports. Physical education is about being healthy and well and physical educators should strive to positively influence their students.
